>> What is cognitive behaviour therapy
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a method of treating psychological conditions based on the idea that the way we perceive the world and ourselves (our cognitions), influences our emotions and behaviour. A person suffering from depression may believe that all undesirable events are due to his or her behaviour and that all desirable events are due to chance.
In therapy/counselling, the therapist helps the client to identify these unhelful thoughts and provides a workable way of dealing with them. Clients are encouraged to test out new ways of thinking and behaving in their daily lives. CBT allows treatment to be more specifically tailored to meet the individual's needs than do more traditional forms of counselling. After assessment of client's needs, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness maybe integrated in the therapy session.

>> F.A.Q
What will happen during the first session with my therapist?
You'll be assured of confidentiality. Your therapist will put you at ease, so that you can tell your 'story'. Your problem will then be assessed and your therapist will work out a programme that both of you will work through in the following sessions.
What else will happen during the first session?
Depending on your level of distress or discomfort, your therapist may help you to practice relaxation, or mindfulness meditation, so that a start may be made in tackling your distress.
Will I be expected to 'do' anything between sessions?
Your therapist may give you some 'homework' to practice between sessions. This homework will be agreed with you and the reason for doing it explained in session.
