Life coaching is a process where the client and the coach go through a basic list of needs, aspirations and values. Skills sets and professional achievements are noted. As with any human relationship, trust, respect and commitment are a prerequiset to effective coaching. When the above are reached coaching can begin.
Usually people show up for coaching when they find themselves struggling with difficult work/life balance issues. However, there may be many other reasons for presenting to a life coach.Clients may be preparing for an interview, going for promotion or they be facing increased responsibilities in the work place.
Duting the first session a thorough assessment of needs is done. Initially broad parameters are established and as the process continues these are trimmed down to more specific and tangible needs/ goals.Academic, professional and other skills and qualifications are noted and compared to the requirement of their present position/job.On the other hand the client may have a skills deficit which could be hindering his/her progress. Thoughts, feelings, body sensations and behaviours are also assessed. All of these have huge influence on how we perceive ourselves and others.Thoughts, feelings, body sensations and behaviours are an intergal part of each one of us.Becoming aware of these thoughts, feelings, etc can have an impact on our relationship with others. Establishing and maintaining good working relationships is an essential requirement for the progression of a successful career.
What's holding you back?
Are you stuck in a rut? Have you a lot of unhelpful thoughts? Have you a fear of change? If the answer to all of these questions is YES, then you are a normal human being. The fear of change is one of the most common discomforts we feel. Eventhough there is nothing more permanent change it can and does lead to anxiety, stress and fear. In your coaching sessions you will learn skills that will help you make room for these thoughts and feelings and at the same time you will identify your life values and make the commitment to ACT and travel that road towards your life values.
